Alfa Aesar Celebrates 50 Years of Quality Chemicals
Alfa Aesar, A Johnson Matthey Company, is proud to celebrate its fiftieth year of providing high quality chemicals and unsurpassed customer service.
The foundations of Alfa Aesar date back to 1963, when Alfa Inorganics was originally founded to provide a source of inorganic research chemicals. Under years of ownership by Metal Hydrides, Ventron, and Thiokol, Alfa marketed inorganics, organometallics, and other products such as organoboron and organoarsenic reagents.
Established in 1982, Aesar was Johnson Matthey's part-owned USA distribution agent for their range of high purity inorganic chemicals and metals, solvents and acids. Following Aesars takeover of Alfa, the combined business was rebranded Alfa Aesar, and Johnson Matthey assumed full ownership in 1989. Johnson Matthey purchased Avocado Chemicals in 2002 and Lancaster Synthesis in 2004, and both organic research chemical companies were integrated with the operations of Alfa Aesar. These operations became the company's main organic production plant.
Following steady growth since the acquisitions of Avocado and Lancaster, Alfa Aesar has opened offices and distribution centers in China, France, Korea, and India from 2004-2010. Today, Alfa Aesar, a Johnson Matthey Company, is a leading international manufacturer and supplier of research chemicals, metals and materials. With over 45,000 products listed in its catalogs, Alfa Aesar is the single source for customers' needs for chemicals and materials in sizes for research and scale up. The Alfa Aesar catalog carries materials for biological research, organic compounds, high purity inorganics, pure elements, alloys, precious metal catalysts, AA/ICP standards and more.
