Bibby Scientific Ltd announced today that Stuart®, a leading UK manufacturer of bench-top laboratory equipment, has launched the SMP50, a new automatic melting point system that incorporates high resolution video technology combined with an intelligent melt algorithm to determine the melting point of up to three samples, simultaneously and automatically. The SMP50's digital camera also records the sample melt, providing confirmation of the automatically-obtained result and time-stamped video files that can be easily transferred to a PC for long-term proof of measurement and traceability.
This latest addition to Stuart's leading range of Melting Point products can be trusted to measure sample melting points automatically, through monitoring and identifying small changes in the sample. Its accurate and reliable capabilities save valuable time and labour for scientists while conforming to Pharmacopeia and GLP standards. The system's user-interface is based on the well-known Android platform, making it highly intuitive to set up and navigate, with a logical layout and easy access of common tasks from the home screen. The SMP50's functions include rapid ramp mode, for quickly scanning through the entire temperature range (at 20°C per minute) when working with unknown plateau temperatures.

All operation is via the 7-inch high-definition colour touchscreen and, once programmed, users can walk away from the system and leave it to complete the melt analysis independently. Alternatively, melting can be observed live on-screen, or through watching the video recording post-melt; up to 300 melt files can be stored in the system's 8GB memory.
