Name: Niamh Sheridan

Role at Lennox: Business Development & Equipment Lead

Background/education:

I have a BSc in Biotechnology from DCU and previously worked in a research lab. Before that I worked in customer service roles. I started working with Lennox five years ago on the Customer Service Team and have enjoyed my progression within the company.

What are your areas of expertise?

At Lennox, we have a comprehensive range of equipment, so this entails having a strong knowledge on any piece of equipment one may need for a laboratory, from benchtop equipment like hotplates, mixers, balances and water baths to larger equipment like autoclaves, biological safety cabinets, fume hoods and climate chambers, and everything in between. We also work on projects with customised or bespoke equipment; there is no limit!

What sectors do you work with?

I work with all sectors! Our offering covers a wide scope of industries so I could be dealing with a vast range of companies or establishments over the course of any given day. This usually includes industries such as Pharma, Medical Devices, Industrial, Government Departments, Food & Beverage, County Councils, Contract Labs and Education.

What challenges are currently facing the customers you work with? How are you helping them overcome those challenges?

With equipment, each customer’s challenge is unique and often they know what they want to do but may require assistance on what is actually required to achieve that goal.

I help customers overcome these challenges by understanding their application and using my knowledge and expertise to offer the most suitable equipment and solution for them.

I have a bank of knowledge around what specific equipment will work best in almost any situation, as well as how they work and how to solve any issues that crop up for individuals. Since I first joined Lennox, I have found that as our clients can vary quite broadly in sectors, sometimes it can be a challenge for them to ensure they are investing in the most suitable equipment for their specific company needs. I advise them on this and establish the equipment that will suit them best!

What are some key trends you are seeing in your area of expertise?

Cost analysis is even more important now during Covid — more of our contacts are finding it harder and harder to get their projects signed off. We have to be very creative in helping them with their proposal so that they can show the savings that our equipment can create over time. All of our equipment is created for ease of use, and with a view to saving time and money as well as running as efficiently as possible. Recently we have found that highlighting this clearly to our clients has become more important to them as it is directly helpful in achieving sign off and moving the project along.
