Air purifiers are one of the tools we can use to keep our spaces safe. Many purifiers contain a HEPA filter, which stands for High-Efficiency Particulate Arresting. Simply put, HEPA filters can trap small particles that remain airborne for longer periods of time, which is why they have become popular in the prevention of viruses in indoor settings.

When it comes to choosing an air purifier it is important to choose ones that meets your requirements. At Lennox we provide Daikin’s compact plug and play air purifiers with HEPA filters which can contribute to reducing the risk of respiratory virus transmission.

We have looked at the guidelines set out by the departments and listened to the questions that our customers have been asking. Here are our insights into choosing an air filter suitable for you.

How do I use my air filter?

Air filters can be used with windows in a room, either open or closed. When it comes to running air filters there are different options. If you would prefer to power off your unit when a room is not in use it can be turned on 30 minutes before a room will be occupied and left to run for the duration that the room is in use.

If you would prefer for your room to be protected at all times you have the option to run your unit on ‘Auto Mode’. This programme allows for air filters to be left running when the room is unoccupied. The unit will run at a lower capacity as there will be less particles in the room ensuring around the clock protection for your space.

Does the air filter cover my floor space?

When it comes to choosing air filters it is important to ensure that they are suitable for the space in which they will be used. The Department of Education states that air filters should cover a floorspace of 58.52 m2 with a room height of 3.1m. Our Daikin air filters cover rooms with a floorspace 82 m2 with 3.1 m height, giving you extra peace of mind when choosing them for a classroom.

While the air filter exceeds the recommended space set out by the department when it comes to larger spaces such as PE halls, two air filters would be suitable.

Do we still need to use CO2 Monitors?

Air filters should not be used as a substitute for CO2 Monitors. CO2 monitors still play an important role in preventing the spread of viruses. In order to ensure maximum protection both CO2 Monitors and air filters can be used in conjunction to ensure your space is safe.

When do I replace my air filter?

Daikin air filters last for up to 10 years (90,000 hours) which ensures your room will be protected from all types of viruses into the future.
